RECOMMENDED PREPARATION:
To get the most benefits from the ceremonies and as well to reduce risks, it is necessary to prepare on different levels: physical, social, psychological and spiritual. Let’s start with the first one.
Physical Preparation: DIET
The diet is important to help the medicine do its work and to cleanse and sensitize body and psyche beforehand. There are various types of diets recommended, often depending on different traditions and cultures. What all of them have in common is to avoid drugs, to be abstinent from sexual activity, to eat fresh and healthy foods, and to be well-hydrated.
It’s your choice how long and how deep you’re going with your diet, but it is recommended to start 2–3 weeks in advance and more consequently 3–4 days before.
Avoid fast and spicy foods, coffee and chocolate, red meat, especially pork and cold cut meat. Meat substitutes from wheat protein or GMO soy products and fermented products, especially on a milk basis have to be avoided as well. No use of excessive salt and sugar and no food or beverages with colouring, artificial flavours, or preservatives.
Recommended food: Mild, fresh fruit and vegetables (if it is not bio, make sure to wash it properly), wild herbs, legumes, seeds, white meats (chicken and fish are permitted; fish from a healthy source is well recommended).
Although these guidelines may sound quite strict, it is important that you also enjoy yourself, tune into your body, and decide what feels right for you. Every body is different and needs different nutrition depending on body type, gender, age, etc.
Besides your nutrition, you have to avoid consuming drugs like alcohol, stimulants, opiates, and other drugs AT LEAST 7 days before the retreat. Also, don’t take any medical prescription drugs that are contraindicated with the plant, like antidepressants. It is recommended to stop using these types of medications 7 days before the ceremonies. As well, make sure that you’re not taking natural medicines that are contraindicated with the plant, like Ginkgo biloba or John’s Wort. Don’t take female contraceptive pills, antibiotics, natural supplements, or vitamins in the week prior to the retreat. If you are currently taking medications which must be continued, please discuss it with us as soon as possible before your ceremony.
Next to foods and drugs, it is also very important to take care of your energy. We recommend abstaining from sexual activity, including masturbation, at least 3 or 4 days as it can reduce your physical and energetic levels during the retreat.
We recommend as well to stretch and to practice body postures like Yoga Asanas, Qi Gong, or Tai Chi to release physical blockages and to help activate the energy flow in your body.
Social Preparation
If you wish to improve relationships with family, partners, friends, or address issues involving others, it’s important to go into open dialogue with them during the preparation phase. Talk from your heart with compassion and clearly communicate your sincere intentions. If you decide to undergo therapy before the session, consider inviting them to participate in the process, if appropriate. You can also explain your participation in a therapeutic session using medicinal plants, share your intentions, and seek their feedback.
Building a foundation of trust and support is beneficial for everyone involved. Make sure to create a peaceful environment, which is crucial for the ceremony process.
Psychological Preparation
To help the medicine work on a psychological level, it is important to gain more awareness about your personal state. If you want to liberate yourself from trauma, addictions, emotional blockages, certain behavioral patterns, or if you want to improve relationships and/or use it for personal growth, it is important to take your time for reflection. Think about where you find yourself at the moment in life, which problems or recurrent behavioral patterns you do not manage to solve or adjust, how your behavior influences your environment, and how the environment influences your behavior.
Ask yourself if you often feel stressed or anxious – If so, what are the sources of it and how do you respond to it? Write everything down. If you have problems getting a clear idea of what you need, it’s helpful to start journaling about your thoughts and feelings. Guided meditations and mindfulness practices are recommended as well.
Feel free to ask us for certain meditation preparation practices or other topics like inner child work.
We are open to sharing other tools with you that help to reflect. The more you have reflected on your personal issues, the more the medicine can function as a catalyst in this process.
So, it is important to have an intention for your ceremony but at the same time, it is important not to have specific expectations to let the medicine show and teach you the way.
Spiritual Preparation
To connect better with the medicine, we suggest focusing on meditation practice. Try to ground yourself, connect with the earth, go out in nature, take walks, swim in natural pools, rivers, or oceans. Start with sincere personal prayers to open this dimension and to receive help, guidance, and teaching from ayahuasca medicine and from other cosmic spirits.
Intention for the Ayahuasca Ceremony
Intention is a powerful tool when working with ayahuasca; it serves as a compass to guide your journey and helps you stay grounded throughout the experience. The clarity of your intention allows you to navigate the realms of the medicine, ultimately leading you to the insights and answers you seek.
Before the ceremony, we suggest you take time for deep reflection and meditation. Focus on your intention — what do you hope to heal, learn, or transform during this sacred experience? Whether it’s clarity on a personal matter, healing past wounds, or connecting more deeply with yourself, allow your intention to be your guiding path.
During this time, we encourage you to embrace noble silence — a period of quiet reflection that allows you to stay present with your own energy and open your heart to the ceremony. This silence will help you connect with the medicine, yourself, and the profound wisdom of the journey ahead.
Let your intention be a foundation for the ceremony, keeping you aligned with your highest self as you walk the path of discovery and healing.
Both ritual requires:
- Intentional preparation
- Respect and gratitude
- Conscientious and long-term integration
- Vulnerability, acceptance, and a willingness to forgive and let go of past or current structures of belief
- Adherence to our medical and dietary guidelines
Thanks for your trust.
